Rise Up 2022: Honoring Our Past While Shaping the Future

September 12, 2022 by Jade Watts Leave a Comment

The 2nd Annual Rise Up Conference was a huge success with almost 500 participants, speakers, and audience members from all over the United States and around the world!

Higher education in prison is a field that has experienced a period of rapid expansion over the last twenty years. Although there is a lot of discussion in this field about the importance of including directly impacted people, it is rare to see spaces where those directly impacted people are leading the conversation. That’s why this year’s Rise Up 2022 theme, “Honoring the Past While Shaping the Future,” supported directly impacted practitioners who offered both their valuable lived experience and the expertise and scholarship we’ve honed through academic study and training both inside and after prison.

Thank you to the Rise Up Steering Committee, partnering organizations including Formerly Incarcerated College Graduates Network, From Prison Cells to PhDs, Georgia Coalition for Higher Education in Prison, Operation Restoration, and our community. We hope to see you all next year!
