We were honored that The New York State Council on Community Justice was hosted on July 19th by Lt. Governor Antonio Delgado at Sing Sing Correctional Facility.
The meeting brought together government officials and leaders from community-based organizations, including our executive director, Sean Pica, other higher education professionals, and Hudson Link students and alumni. Hosting the advisory group at Sing Sing provided a critical opportunity to connect our students and their ideas to some of the biggest decision-makers in the state.
The Council’s work will review existing State policies and programs and propose new measures to strengthen the State’s efforts to advance equity, reduce disparities, and decrease recidivism for formerly and currently incarcerated people in New York State. It also aims to enhance the support given to formerly incarcerated people by facilitating their successful reentry into society and promoting long-term effectiveness in their transitions. As more council members levy their support behind solution-based initiatives for the state’s incarcerated population, we remain committed to advocating for the resources needed to create safer communities, stronger families, and reduce spending on prisons across the state.
